South Northants Community Responders Training

Community AED training

Maidford Parish Council have just installed a community AED (Automated External Defibrillator) these are also know as Community Public Access Defibrillators or CPAD. Leroy from East Midlands Ambulance Service was invited along to do a talk on the benefits and use of the newly installed device. SNCR were invited along to support and to talk a bit about our role in the community.

The training consisted of

  1. An introduction to EMAS and SNCR.
  2. A video and power point presentation, highlighting the benefits of early intervention.
  3. Practical – parishioners were given the opportunity to practice CPR on a resus dummy.

The evening attracted a group of about 30 members of the local parish. Leroy went through a presentation on how to access and use the CPAD. The evening started with a few unsure faces, parishioners thinking, ‘well what could I do’ after a short presentation you could see that early intervention and ‘hands on CPR’ can dramatically increase the chances of survival.

After Leroy’s presentation the parishioners were given the opportunity to have a go at practicing CPR on a training manakin. Tristan and Lee were on hand from SNCR to help out and talk through the practice sessions. It was also a good opportunity for us to explain the role of a Community First Responder. Lee actually comes under the area of Maidford so meeting the parishioners and their responder created a great link between SNCR and the community.

The parishioners had a bit of a startled look and were really thinking that they would not be able to do anything productive if the situation came about. By the end of the evening after the presentation and some practice the attitude changed and you could see how the parishioners felt comfortable that they could help and perhaps save a life.
– Lee Attwood – First Responder

A fantastic opportunity to meet the community and spread the word on how important easy hands on CPR is.
